Making your site mobile friendly

Keeping in mind that mobile marketing is the easiest way to promote your company. Though it is time consuming- it is your best way to reach a large audience. Utilizing multiple media outlets is important. It has been proven that people tend to surf the web when they are bored or wasting time. Therefore, your company should ensure that they have appealing and mobile friendly sites.

Mobile media is a monster and lead in new and constantly updating technologies. It is important that you stay on top of this and adopt the changes to better understand and serve your publics. For companies, it is also important to know that moms are a huge online shopping audience. When you are creating, a website keep your target audience in mind. Make sure to fully understand their wants and needs. Moms especially, only have a small window of opportunity to shop online, so make sure what they are looking for is easy to find and the ordering process is simple.

To ensure that people will stay on your site there are a couple things you can do to help yourself. MAKE YOUR SITE MOBILE FRIENDLY. There is nothing worst then going to a site that the link is broken or that does not display the right HTML for your device making all the content out of place. This will make it harder on the eyes and will slower their online experience. Loosing their interest will result in loss of sales and returning customers. To fix this problem create different HTML codes that will recognize what type of device people are visiting your site from.

When you are creating a site to reach a larger target audience on social media it is important to keep in mind:

·         Engage – a way for visitors to be interactive

For example, when you go into a clothing store and tell you that if you text a given number they will text you a code in return giving you a per cent off your purchase. This engages customers because people like discounts. You may also do this online by sending emails out to past customers and asking them so fill out a survey to receive something in return (food, discount, a chance to enter a draw).

·         Educate- use information to your advantage.

Give them what they want to know and where they can find it. If you make your information to complex and in depth people will lose interest. Keep your website up to date and current with new information as well as a simple and appealing layout. This will ensure that people spend more time on your site.

·         Entertain: wow them, have a great layout and colour pallet for your site 

Keep your visitors engaged. Let there be interactive opportunities for them if they wish to do so but do not force them to do anything. Usually people do not enjoy having to complete a task to further research or shop. Do not force them to take part in your “create a Christmas basket” sale. But rather make it an option. Mostly woman are the ones who enjoy shopping online. And we know that women like options.

·         Evangelize: talk through your audience 

It is a company’s goal to create sharable content. Because with sharable content,  comes the ability to reach a wider audience. This means that if someone likes a product on your website and are eager to tell their friends about their purchase, they can by simply adding a share button.

The way your mobile audience sees your social media outlets is important. All the successful websites are keeping things fresh, simple, clean and keeping their information up to date. There are programs and sites out there to help you do the same – Hootsuite for example is a common one. This is what you will need to do to have success on mobile devices.

Becoming Mobile-Friendly: The Digital World’s Newest Requirement

If you’ve been noticing the increase in cell phone usage within your own network of family and friends, then you won’t be surprised when I tell you that businesses would be wise to hop on the bandwagon and commit to making themselves mobile-friendly.

In recent years, companies have been gaining insight into how big of a difference mobile access can make to their success. Anywhere you look, you’re sure to see at least one person glued to their device’s screen. I know, I know, at some point you’ve probably been nagged to “get off your cell phone!” or “pay attention to what’s in front of you!” But today, I’m telling you to do just the opposite!

Surveys showed that 73% of company executives under the age of 40 consider their mobile device to be their primary communication tool – and this speaks volumes. The majority of everyday consumers use their mobile device on a daily basis to look up information about businesses whether it be their working hours, their phone number, or the services that they provide. In 2014, a poll was taken to determine the number of cell phones versus the number of computers that were used to look up information, and cell phones have officially been crowned the winner. If your business doesn’t have an online presence that converts into a mobile-friendly version, you’ve immediately cut off an entire market of potential consumers – and they’ve likely already moved on to your competitor’s website.

On that same note, having a mobile-friendly website is not enough. As a business owner, you must ensure that your site always has the proper software in place to allow for a quick loading time. Keep your file sizes small, your content easy to access, and your navigation simple! Your viewers don’t want to use up all of their data trying to figure out where your company’s phone number is. Like I said, you’ll be sending more business to your competitor’s site and your reputation is sure to take a hit.

Now that you understand the importance of simply having a mobile-friendly application, it’s time for me to tell you how to keep the ball rolling.

Let’s begin with the 4 E’s of a digital content strategy. These include engaging your audience, educating them, entertaining them, and evangelizing – let your audience speak volumes for you.

To engage – always ensure that you allow for two-way conversation, and always let your audience know what’s going on – digitally add to their calendars perhaps? Yes, it really is that simple.

To educate – keep your content relevant and up to date. Always. Digital mediums are the fastest method of accessing information. People will never stop seeking new knowledge, so make sure you’re the best place to get it from.

To entertain – never settle for the generic, the boring, or the outdated. Digital media gives you the power to showcase your work – don’t overlook the opportunity!

And finally, to evangelize – it’s not enough for you to just speak to your audience; you need them to convey your message as well. If you give them something worth sharing, odds are, they’ll pass it on.

Marketing and PR in real time gives us the opportunity to connect with our audiences and give them what they want instantly. Knowing the proper way to use these tools has the ability to make or break an organization. In this post you’ll see an example of both the positives and negatives of Real Time Marketing and PR, and hopefully at the end of this you will have a better idea of how to utilize these tools.

Example 2: Justine Sacco

Although real time marketing and PR can be very beneficial for a company or organization, it also has the power to ruin someone very quickly. An example of this would be Justine Sacco, who managed to blow up her entire life in one tweet.

Sacco was traveling from New York to South Africa and before boarding her 11-hour flight, she tweeted: “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m White!”

In the 11 hours she was on her flight, her tweet went viral and was receiving a lot of negative attention very quickly. While in the air, the hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet started circulating and one follower even went to the airport to document and post about her arrival. The New York Times posted an article about this situation, in which they documented that she ended up losing her job as a communications director for a    company – yes… she worked in PR and still managed to be as careless to not realize the power of social media.

There are endless examples of people who have put something out there without realizing the backlash that would be involved, and once your organization is branded in that negative light, it is extremely difficult to build back credibility among your audience.

How to use video to your advantage in marketing

This weeks blog post will be about the effectiveness of videos and how to get the best results from them. Videos use emotions to tell stories that can’t be so easily expressed in writing.

Marketing is all about the product and story telling is all about the people and the experiences that come along with the company or product. It is important to keep your customers aware that you are humans. Make them realize that you care more then just about making money from them. This can all be documented through audio and video. Showing the great gestures of the people in and around your company. People will get carried away in the story and forget that this is also a marketing technique.

Why video?

A lot of people do not know why video is so important to promote themselves. Well here are 7 reasons why you should be using online video:

  • A wider reach
  • Bring customer testimonials to life
  • Inject personality into your marketing messages
  • More memorable than written content
  • A SEO boost
  • Increased customer satisfaction and fewer returns
  • Create an effortless personal connection with users

Knowing the importance that technology has on the world around us, it is also important to know the best ways to share this content with these same people. Using sites such as YouTube, ITunes, Vine, Instagram and Facebook is a great way to get your message across. The more social media outlets you can reach with your message the more people are going to view it. The more people view it the more memorable you will be.

When creating a video for your company, make it memorable. Think of your favourite commercial. Maybe it’s the funny one or the heart warming one that you seen last week. Well regardless I bet you are thinking of it right now and can name me the company that the product or service was produced by. A commercial that stands out in my memory is the “Puppy, Monkey, Baby” by Mountain Dew. This commercial was completely irrelevant and hilarious and therefore it stood out to me. Create a video that people want to watch repeatedly not one that people feel forced to sit through.

Have fun with your videos and get your audience involved. People love to feel needed/ wanted. Artist such as Chris Lane will often request that the public to submit videos of them singing or dancing to their music to incorporate it into their next music video for example. This is a smart move it will draw in more views and will create conversation around this video. It also allows your audience a chance to connect with you. As a company, you can do the same thing by asking people to submit videos for their chance at a prize of some sort or just for popularity.

So when you are thinking of creating a worthy video that people are going to want to watch think of heart warming stories, anything comedic or invite the customers to participate in the video all three of these techniques work great when preparing to post a video to social media. (Samuelle)

What started off as a simple microblogging tool has turned into every business’ best friend for reaching their target audience and gaining new customers. Twitter started up in 2006 as a microblogging service for anybody interested in sharing information to use. Since its creation, it has developed into arguably the most useful tool for businesses to gain attention. Every tweet must be short and sweet, since you’re only allotted 140 characters per post – which in today’s busy society, is the most that anybody would have read regardless. Businesses have used Twitter to their advantage by attracting thousands of followers through promoting their brand in a unique way.

Twitter plays host to many internal connecting tools as well. The most popular example of this is undoubtedly the #hashtag. While those unfamiliar with this term may be wondering why anybody would place the number sign symbol in front of a set of words, those that do frequent the website understand the significance and power of this tool. Are You Overwhelmed by Social Media?

What is social media? Everyone will likely have a different definition, however it is pretty simple – social media is an online channel for people to share ideas, content, thoughts, and create relationships.

I think it is safe to say that you all know what social media is, but do we know what social networking is? Most of you do it on a daily basis without even knowing about it. Social networking is how people interact on social media! This includes sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Essentially social media and social networking are interchangeable and by having one you are doing the other.

Think of social media sites as an online community. A great example of this is Humans of New York which now has almost 18 million likes.

Many companies are hesitant to join social media because it is extremely overwhelming. However, social media has the power to take your company to a whole other level.

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter give you the ability to reach a very large number of people for very minimal costs. According to this article posted by AdWeek, Facebook surpassed 1.4 billion monthly users and Twitter has 320 million monthly users. To put these numbers into perspective, it is very unlikely that this many people read the local, or even national newspapers every month. And these are just two of the largest social media platforms, there are many others that you can use to get your name and message our there.

Facebook is an excellent platform to deliver information and ideas to a group of like-minded people. If you think about how you gain most of your information, chances are its from social media rather than the local news or newspaper.

Considering the number of total Facebook users, I think it is safe to assume that a majority of you reading this post are on Facebook. Your personal Facebook profile is a way of marketing yourself. You are continuously delivering information and ideas to those you are friends with. So think of it from a business perspective – why not create the same opportunity for your business? It’s a great way to get your message out there and create a space for consumers to engage with each other, as well as the company itself.

Your next step is to start planning out your company’s Facebook page while keeping these tips in mind!

  1. Figure out the purpose of your page – Don’t do it just because everyone else is, figure out how it works into what you’re trying to achieve.
  2. Put thought into the content you post – Think about what your audience wants to see and how it is relative to your company.
  3. Don’t be pushy – Think about how you are going to engage people and encourage them to visit and like your page. You do not want to spam people; it will have the opposite affect than what you’re trying to achieve.
  4. You don’t have to engage in all of the negativity – the nice thing about creating a community on social media, is they will usually do the work for you. Although the community will be self-governing, you still need to be aware of what is being said and ensure that the page is being monitored in case there is a situation where you need to step in.

If you follow these 4 steps, managing your company’s social media presence should seem a little less daunting. Creating a Facebook page is only the start, but the most important thing is getting out there and then building from there. Content is King

This week’s post will focus on content! Every little thing that is included in your web pages or social media outlet should have great content. Keep in mind that your audience wants to connect and create a strong bond with you. What better way to do this then through the contend you are providing?

Great web content is about the buyer, not you. The content that you provided will drive action on your site. The better content you have the more likely your message will get across and you will get what you are looking for from visitors. Ex purchases, donations and web traffic.

There are many ways for you to make sure the content you are providing is good content on the web. And your going to learn how now.

1.       You must create a buyer persona and define the problem. After you have created a buyer persona then it is time to put yourself in their position. What content needs adjusting on you site or social media to please most people? Research what has worked best to connect with buyer personas like yours in the past. There are so many statistics that prove that having a buyer persona will only improve your success rates. Don’t skip this step! customer-profiles1

2.       Use real-world language, this means do not use jargon. You want to make sure you get your points or messages across. People do not like to read jargon and this will make them loose interest in what you have to say. Speak to your audience like you would to a family member. You would not swear yet you would not use all this your companies jargon. The simpler you make it for people to understand the more likely people will be willing to stay on the site and pay attention to what you are saying. 

3.       Don’t be fake. Do not over exaggerate or put emphasis on something that is not accurate, you will lose credibility in the eyes of the public. Make sure to always be honest and do not put any content that can be controversial on your site. People what to know the truth so give them the good, bad and ugly so that is what we are expected to give to them. Don’t hold back on them.

4.       Talk to your audience in a friendly and familiar matter. The people who are on your site are looking for something that you have and at the end of the day your mission is to make their time on your site enjoyable and simple. The easier it is to manoeuver around you’re site the more likely they are to stay on your site, come back to your site or even refer a friend to your site all because they had a good experience.

An example of a great website would be Fine Cooking, they clearly followed the steps above. They have a clear buyer persona, they use simple language, they are transparent and last but not least they are relatable.

If you make sure to include all these elements in your web page or social media outlet and remember that Content is king, then you will most likely be successful over social media.
